Hanggliding 2013 Season started

Hanggliding Season 2013 has started.
After a long winter, it was finally time to get air under the wings. My first flight with the new T2C on winch towing in Auerbach (near Augsburg) was big fun. The bird is great with easy handling and climbs good in even weak thermals.

Wills Wing T2C 154

I get my new glider, a wills wing T2C 154. It was Wolfis (http://www.wolfifly.com/) 2012 glider, he won with it the Austrian championship 2012.

DHV Regionalversammlung Pottenstein

There was the annual DHV-regional meeting South-East (Bavaria) in Pottenstein.

There were very interesting reports about

• fligth operations
• flying technique for hanggliding and paragliding

Towing - Airport Greiling (near Bad Tölz)

I started my towing training at the Airport in Greiling.

The wind was tricky, but the conditions improved, so I had good flights.

After 7 successful starts I drove home really tired but happy. There was a wonderful rainbow - and later extreme rain.

Flying season started - Flying Hochfelln

After a short visit to the Zillertal I went to Hochfelln.

Fantastic weather, warm as in summer (20 ° in the valley), in a T-shirt on the Hochfelln, despite the deep snow at the launch site. Here are some pictures.

Airborne REV 14.5 - soon DHV certified?

I´m searching for a new toy for the 2012 season. Either an rigid ATOS VR or a topless flexible glider.

I asked Rick Duncan about the DHV certification of the new AIRBORNE REV 14.5. Rick told me, the certification is expected soon. Dirk Soboll just have to write the manual.

I look forward to a fligth test. In Forbes 2012 AIRBORNE beat the rest. It would be nice if finally a bigger high performance glider would be certified.

Flying the tide

2 Dragonflies and a paramotor had the mission to fly the Entire Bore. A great video, just amazing.

What did you since 17th July`?

Some guys travel only by flying with their paraglider and by foot 864 km throu the Alps from Salzburg to Monaco http://www.redbullxalps.com/. Chrigel Maurer did this in 11 days, flying 1.321 km and walking 486 km (36 h flying, 82 h hiking). What did you since 17th July?

What did I?

• 80 h working
• 12 h biking (305 km)
• 0,5 h jogging (5 km)
• 0 h flying (because of the bad weather, but new speedbar mounted on my hangglider)
• 11 h driving car (982km)

 overall 1.292 km - not so bad.

 

 

Piedrahita - thoughts about the risks of our sport

The tragedy of Piedrahita makes us all think. The things we think are safe - are not, nor ever were. When I started flying, I was not thinking about the risk. There were no children and no wife. I was only responsible for myself. Even when I started my hangglider in dubious conditions. Everything went well - until I fell at one time under the ramp in the bushes. I was lucky, a few yards further and ... It could have been very bad. Thus, only the high-performance glider was damaged. A week later I was back with my beginner glider at the start and everything was ok.

When I founded my family, I have stopped flying. After my kids are a little bigger (the youngest now go to school), I have begun to fly again. The dream of flying was always present in my mind.

Augsburg - Aalen - Augsburg - Schwangau (flying)- Augsburg - München - Frankfurt - Aachen - Karlsruhe - Augsburg - by car in 3 days

My job can sometimes be stressful - but with the right car, it's also fun.
